The Way of Saint James, the Camino de Santiago is a symbolic journey, with a destination not entirely known until reached. Legend has it that the remains of Jesus’s apostle Saint James the Greater lie in a silver casket under the Cathedral’s main altar. The pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela has existed for well over 1,000 years. For centuries millions of people walked it, on foot, on horseback, on boat and found solace – and often a new beginning in it. The Camino de Finisterra starts in the Cathedral and leads to the most western lands of Europe, when the sun makes its farewell every day.

If you want to give your loved ones this last tribute, because they walked the Camino or always wanted to, or simply to honour their pilgrim soul, we will respectfully accompany their last pilgrimage.

The Journey

After receiving the ashes, they will be taken to the Cathedral  for a blessing and then we make a short strech of the Camino de Santiago on foot. Having reached Finis Terrae, the End of the World, where all routes end, we will respectfully scatter the ashes near the ocean. As for many pilgrims, the Lighthouse will illuminate this last journey.

Memorial

In each moment we will handle the ashes respectfully and legally, according to the Spanish legal and enviromental regulations. As a memorial, a photo will  be taken of the exact place, with date and the coordinates.

A unique and intimate ceremony

Gift your loved one with the true spirit of the Camino and make this final farewell a personal and intimate ceremony. Flower petals can accompany the ashes. You can write a letter, send a few words or a poem to be read. You can also request a music to be played gently.

The service costs 380 euros and includes visiting the Cathedral of Santiago with the ashes, the journey from Santiago to Finisterre, and scattering the ashes near the sea. Alternatively, you can request a sea burial that costs 690 euros, and includes also a water-soluble, biodegradable urn, the special permission and the fee of hiring a small rowboat and scattering the ashes at 3 nautical miles from the coast, below Finisterra.
